15 Indian Districts Account For 50 Per Cent Of All Coronavirus Cases: Health Ministry Data

Fifteen districts across nine states in India have half of total coronavirus cases in the country, Health Ministry said on Saturday (18 April). Five districts -- Mumbai, Indore, Jaipur, Pune, and Ahmedabad -- alone account for nearly one third of India’s cases.
According to a Hindustan Times report based on the Ministry data, the deadly virus had now spread to 56 per cent of country’s districts. The released data is crucial as India is going to ease the lockdown restrictions in areas that will be out of danger from the virus outbreak. Important activities and businesses will be allowed in these areas from 20 April, albeit with social distancing and other norms.
The report says, this is a similar kind of concentration that has been seen in other countries such as United States (US) and China. New York state in the US alone accounts for 33 per cent of all cases, while New York city alone 19 per cent. Hubei province of China makes for about 81 per cent of total cases in the country.
The data released by the Ministry officials was based on 12,863 cases. However, on Saturday (18 April) India had 14, 792 cases across the country, including 488 casualties.
