27 Journalists In Tamil TV Channel Test Covid-19 Positive After Coming In Contact With Infected Colleague

Twenty-seven journalists of a Tamil television channel have tested positive for Coronavirus (Covid-19) after one of their colleagues tested positive for the pandemic virus on Sunday (19 April).

New Indian Express quoted Greater Chennai Corporation sources as saying that the positive results were from among the 94 samples it had drawn at the workplace of the journalist, a copy editor, after he tested positive.

Results of some more samples are awaited, it said, adding that the journalist resided at the police quarters in northern Chennai locality of Royapuram.

All the contacts of the 27 journalists and their family members have now been quarantined.

On 19 April, besides the television journalist, a reporter working for a Tamil daily also tested positive for Coronavirus. The reporter’s contacts, including those who resided with him at a mansion in Triplicane, have been quarantined.

So far, 1,520 performs have tested positive for Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu with 17 deaths being reported.
