In a shocking development, a three-day-old baby along with his 26-year-old mother has tested positive for novel coronavirus after allegedly contracting the virus after they were kept on a bed vacated by Covid-19 patient in Mumbai, reports India Today.

The mother-son duo is currently undergoing treatment at Kasturba hospital and as per doctors, are in stable conditions. Additionally, the father of the infant is also kept in quarantine at the hospital.

As per a Free Press Journal report, the mother was admitted to the hospital on 26 March for delivery. The father had specifically asked for a private room due to the fear of the ensuing pandemic.

The father further alleges that the hospital staff did not inform them that they had kept one Covid-19 positive patient in the room where his wife delivered a baby boy.

"This is clearly negligence. They told me about the corona patient later and within seconds of hearing it, we vacated that room. But, by then, my wife was infected," father was quoted as saying as per report.

The family has claimed that no staff from the Chembur Hospital came to check on them while they were admitted. They later shifted to Kasturba hospital and got to know about the lapse when a doctor called and asked them to get tested for coronavirus.
