In a major development, the administration of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has informed the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that it no longer has an objection to restoration of 4G internet services in the region, reports The Indian Express.

Lieutenant Governor (LG) GC Murmu has underscored, "I feel that 4G will not be a problem. I am not afraid how people will use this. Pakistan will do its propaganda, whether it is 2G or 4G. It will always be there. But I don’t see an issue."

This comes as a major shift in the stance of the J&K administration on the matter from just two months ago in May.

Meanwhile, abiding the Supreme Court's decree, the Union Government had set up a special committee to examine the case for the restoration of 4G internet services.

The Government had on Thursday (23 July) informed the top court that the said special committee has already held two meetings on 15 May and 10 June, following which they have surmised that "no further relaxation on restrictions on the internet services, including 4G services would be carried out at present."
