Income Tax Department sleuths on Friday (8 March) detained an MLA belonging to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party in the aftermath of a search on a builder in which Rs 2 crore in cash was reportedly recovered. The cash is believed to be linked to the legislator, said official sources, according to an India Today report.

The MLA in question is Naresh Balyan, who represents Uttam Nagar constituency in New Delhi. Balyan is a builder, and the department is now trying to ascertain whether the money recovered is ‘illegal’, and ‘unaccounted for’.

The I-T team, upon reaching the Dwarka premises of the builder, found Balyan present there along with the cash. The builder and Balyan, as per procedure, were not allowed to leave the place as the search was immediately converted into a full-fledged investigation. Many more people are now under the scanner, after the initial recovery and revelations, said Income Tax sources.
