Aam Aadmi Party ‘Defunct’ In Punjab, No Need For An Alliance: Chief Minister Amarinder Singh

Ruling out the need for an alliance between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, the state’s Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday (7 January) said that the final call on the matter will be taken by the high command of the grand old party.
Singh met Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and has been quoted by The New Indian Express as saying, “AAP was totally non-existent in Punjab, and there was absolutely no need for the Congress in the state to go in for alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal’s party.”
He further added that AAP has become defunct in Punjab and the party has no relevance anymore in the state. He said that the Congress candidate selection will be made depending on the best and most winning candidate criteria and that the party will go on to win all the 13 Lok seats in the state.
The report also states that Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu might be made the state’s Deputy Chief Minister in a possible reshuffle of the cabinet. Singh was accompanied by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunil Jakhar in the meeting with Rahul Gandhi.
