Buoyed by the big mandate the party achieved in the recently culminated Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party led by Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal has decided to expand into the State of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and contest the panchayat elections scheduled for later this year, reports The Hindu.
Senior leader of the party and its spokesperson Sanjay Singh appraised the reporters on Sunday (23 February) that AAP's workers will recruit as many as 25 lakh members by visiting as many as 1.07 lakh villages in the State of UP over the next three months.
It should be noted that after its win in Delhi Assembly elections of 2015 as well the party had tried to expand nationally. However, then the party had failed to build any base, restricting the party's core presence to Delhi.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
