The Aam Aadmi Party has suspended its convener in Kerala, C R Neelakandan, for supporting Congress in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, reports The News Minute.
Neelakandan, on Thursday (18 April) announced AAP’s support for Congress in 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala and for the Left in Malappuram. Neelakandan, who was part of the party’s central committee, has been removed from all his positions, over his decision to side with LDF and Congress, after a party meet in Delhi.
This development coincides with the party not arriving at a consensus to stitch a pre-poll alliance with Congress in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
Reacting to the move, Neelakandan said, “The central committee's decision to support the LDF in Kerala is their latest decision because when we asked them before, they did not specify it. Moreover, we had also intimated that we will be discussing with party members in each constituency to decide whom to support in each place”.
“It was based on the response of the local party leadership in each constituency, that we announced support for Congress in 13 constituencies”. The party in Kerala is not fielding any candidates”, he added.
Neelakandan also said that, they were told to support any political party which can defeat the BJP led National Democratic Alliance(NDA).
AAP appointed Thufail P T as its new convener for Kerala. The party has issued a show cause notice to its Kerala wing for declaring its support to Congress without letting it known to the central committee
