The central government revealed on Tuesday that about 67.6 per cent of Indians have Covid antibodies according to the fourth round of national sero survey report. This leaves around 40 crore individuals still prone to get infected by the Covid-19 virus.

Moreover, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) disclosed that children were included in this national survey for the very first time. Amongst them, those aged between 6-9 years showed a sero-prevalence of 57.2 per cent whereas the figure stood at 61.6 per cent for those between 10-17 years of age.

In fact, people aged between 45-60 years and above 60 years of age recorded the sero-prevalence of 77.6 per cent and 76.7 per cent respectively.

About 66.7 per cent of individuals falling between the age bracket of 18-44 years also have antibodies against the virus as per the findings of the study.

Furthermore, about 85 per cent of healthcare workers included in the survey demonstrated antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2.

Fully and partially vaccinated individuals had 89.8 per cent and 81 per cent sero-prevalence respectively.

Second wave of the pandemic along with the delta variant are being attributed as the reasons behind the rise in sero-prevalence from 24.1 per cent in the third round to 67.6 per cent in the fourth round, Financial Express reports.
