A statement by Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Abu Azmi on the dire consequences of the attacks on Muslims in the name of gaurakhsha (cow vigilantism) has gone viral, reports Jansatta. “If the violence on Muslims in the name of cow vigilantism doesn’t stop, then they will also pick up weapons. Then it will be very difficult to handle the country,” remarked the leader as he spoke to the media in the context of a youth in Nagpur allegedly being beaten up for carrying beef.

Azmi added that such incidents were taking place wherever the Bharatiya Janata Party was in power. Miffed at the cow vigilantes, Azmi quipped, saying, “if they are that brave then why don’t they go and fight the terrorists in Amarnath.”

Commenting on the attacks on Muslims in the name of cow vigilantism, Azmi said, “Looking at the current situation it feels like the lives of cattle are more precious than those of humans. Muslims in the country are scared to travel by train given after an entire train chose to support the attackers who killed Junaid.”

Speaking to Aaj Tak, Azmi said, “Every action has a reaction. Muslims are being beaten today. But if their tolerance gives way, then they will also take to weapons and that day it won’t be easy to handle the nation”. Citing an instance of such an incident, where some Muslims on finding a gaurakshak alone had beaten him up, Azmi added that such situations are bound to arise across the nation. Many a Muslim youth on social media have echoed Azmi’s statements making them go viral.
