Twitter Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Dorsey’ act of holding a placard stating 'Smash Brahmanical Patriarchy' has resulted in an apology by the Twitter legal head Vijaya Gadde, The New Indian Express has reported.

The photo had gone viral on social media and led to a major controversy. The legal, policy and trust and safety head at Twitter, Gadde apologised in a tweet.

Dorsey who had previously admitted to Twitter’s left-leaning stance had attended an interaction with few journalists during his visit to India. He held a board that had “Smash Brahminical Patriarchy” written on it while he posed for a picture with the journalists.

Barkha Dutt, Nilanjana Roy and Anna MM Vetticad were among the journalists who participated in the interaction. After the conference, Anna tweeted a photo of all the member of the roundtable with Dorsey holding the board. The placard hurt the sentiments of several Indians as it targeted the Brahmin community.

Twitter India was seen justifying the act, stating that the poster was given to Dorsey by a Dalit activist when it hosted their closed-door conference. They added that this was not a statement from Twitter or its CEO "but a tangible reflection of our company's efforts to see, hear and understand all sides of important public conversations that happen on our service around the world."
