Actress Deepika Padukone Reaches JNU, Stands In Solidarity With Left Leaders Aishe Ghosh And Kanhaiya Kumar

Actress Deepika Padukone, days ahead of the release of her film ‘Chhapak’, reached JNU today evening and stood with the Left-wing student leaders like JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and Kanhaiya Kumar.

Previously, Bollywood celebrities including Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Zoya Akhtar, Diya Mirza, Rahul Bose, Richa Chadha, Swanand Kirkire, Reema Kagti, Hansal Mehta, Sayani Gupta, Gauahar Khan and Taapsee Pannu had protested in front of the Gateway of India in Mumbai over the JNU violence.

The Left-led JNUSU has blamed ABVP to be behind the attacks, while the latter has blamed the former, pointing at different evidence, including a video clip where the JNUSU-leader Aishe Ghosh is seen walking amongst the masked attackers. As yet, the matter remains unresolved.

Students of both the sides have been injured in the attack.

However, keeping in line with the other Bollywood celebrities, Deepika was also seen siding with the Left.

Reportedly, she remained in the JNU campus for ten minutes, met Aishe Ghosh and other Left leaders but left without making any public speech.

Yesterday, Ms Padukone had spoken to NDTV about the protests, saying that she was proud "people are not scared".

"I feel proud that we are not scared. I think to be able to express ourselves. I think the fact we are thinking about this and about the future of our country... it is nice to see people are coming out on the streets to voice this and express [themselves]. Because if we want to see change, this is very important," she said.

Chhapak, the movie starring Deepika Padukone stated to release on 10 January faces stiff competition from Ajay Devgan’s ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’.
