One of India’s biggest conglomerates, the Adani Group will invest Rs 70,000 crore in building solar-powered data centre parks up to five gigawatts capacity in and around Visakhapatnam, reports ET Energy World.

To be built over the next 20 years, Adani Group’s project is one of its most significant investments till date. The company signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday (9 January).

The move also marks Adani group’s foray into the digital technology infrastructure, a sector expected to see accelerating growth in coming years.

This ambitious, one of a kind project is the world’s first 100 per cent renewable energy powered project. It is expected to make Andhra the data centre hub in entire South East Asia, along with the creation of more than a lakh direct and indirect jobs.

Gautam Adani, the Adani Group Chairman, said, “From core infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh to the rollout of the defence business at Telangana, our vision is to create stellar assets across the length and breadth of the country.”

He continued that the foray into data storage business would make use of the Adani group’s extensive experience in full stack energy management and strong project execution, thus putting it in a unique position to deliver robust and 100 per cent renewable data centre infrastructure and world-class power usage effectiveness.

Adani Group will develop data centre parks in three different campuses, with each giving complementary value and providing the required combined redundancy and reliability to the operators.
