An IndiGo flight bound for Ahmedabad had to deviate from its flight path and enter Pakistan airspace for 30 minutes due to bad weather, before returning to Indian airspace safely.

The Amritsar ATC coordinated the diversion with Lahore ATC and the aircraft flew up to Gujranwala, almost 100 km from Lahore.

This is said to have happened after 7.30 pm on Saturday (10 June).

Such diversions between Indian and Pakistani airspace are not uncommon in cases of adverse weather conditions.

Pakistani airports are designated diversion airfields for Indian flights in case they have to change course due to technical and other reasons.

However, international flights between J&K and the West are not permitted to overfly Pakistan.
