After 17 years of land allotment for the project, Vice President and Chairperson of Rajya Sabha on Monday (10 August) laid the foundation stone for a housing complex for the Upper House's Secretariat's employees in Delhi, reports Times of India.
During the event which took 17 years to become a reality, Naidu expressed concerns over the "social-economic-legal-administrative cobwebs" which resulted in non-utilisation of the allotted land since 2003.
To make the project a reality, Naidu over the last two years held several rounds of meetings with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, top officials from the Ministry, Delhi Government, Delhi Development Authority and other agencies. Naidu also spoke to Delhi's Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister to rid the much-delayed project of all hurdles.
Presently, the housing requirement of the Secretariat's employees is met only up to 38 per cent. The construction of 40 new dwelling units at the 8,700 square metres of land allotted for the purpose will address the shortage. The project will be executed by the state-owned NBCC within a span of three years.
