Home Minister Amit Shah who spearheaded the legislation abolishing Article 370, may go a step further to integrate Kashmir by hoisting the Indian Tricolour in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Independence Day, IANS has reported.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval who is currently in Jammu and Kashmir to assess the security situation is also likely to be present at the event. While reports are speculating Shah’s historic visit to Srinagar, officials are yet to confirm the same while high-level security arrangements are reportedly underway.
The report claimed that Home Ministry officials are certain about Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in the recent future but refused to provide any clarity on specific dates.
Historically, unfurling the tricolour in Srinagar has been one of the notable intentions of the current BJP top brass.
Famously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his party functionary days had accompanied Murli Manohar Joshi in 1992 to hoist the national flag in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk.
