After Bharat Forge And Mahindra, Tata May Bag Contract To Supply Armoured Vehicles To Indian Army: Report

The TATA Group is set to get a contract from the Indian Army to supply heavy armoured protection vehicles for troops deployed in key sectors.
These vehicles will offer protection to the soldiers and also assist in quicker induction and de-induction from frontline areas, a factor that prominently came to the fore during the recent border standoff with China.
Hence, the armed forces have expedited the acquisition process of such vehicles and Tata is one of the two contenders in line to bag the deal to deliver special wheeled vehicles. The total units to be procured will be less than 100 vehicles, reports The Print.
This prospective deal can be seen as another step towards the Indian Army’s ongoing moves on enhancing the mobility and protection of its infantry soldiers.
Back in February, the the Indian Army had placed orders for 27 units of M4 armoured vehicles to Bharat Forge, which has a tie-up with the South Africa-based Paramount Group.
Similarly, the Ministry of Defence had last month signed a deal with the Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd (MDSL) to supply 1,300 light specialist vehicles to the Indian Army at a cost of Rs 1,056 crore.
