After Haryana, Jharkhand Set To Reserve 75 Per Cent Jobs In Private Sector For Locals

Following the move by the Haryana government to reserve 75 per cent of the jobs in the private sector up to a specified salary for candidates domiciled in the state, Jharkhand's state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren has approved a similar policy for implementation in the state, reports Indian Express.
Jharkhand's Cabinet has approved a policy to reserve 75 per cent of private-sector jobs up to a salary of Rs 30,000 per month for local people. The policy is expected to be announced by CM Soren in the state's Assembly session next week, possibly on 17 March.
The State government has reportedly form a sub-committee of three members who will then define the term 'Jharkhandi', based on which the said employment policy would be enacted.
It should be noted that identifying a Jharkhandi has previously been a contentious issue. Questions over the definition of a Jharkhandi had led to the resignation of the then CM Babulal Marandi in 2002, following which successive governments in the state refrained from touching the issue.
The development comes as according to the Economic Survey, the unemployment rate in Jharkhand rose to a peak of 59.2 per cent at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in May 2020, before gradually falling to 11.3 per cent in January 2021.
