Taking credit for enabling Congress’ Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s three-day boat-ride in Ganga river, Union Minister Nitin Gakari on Monday (25 March) said he made the waterway on which Priyanka travelled, reports India Today.

"If I had not made Allahabad-Varanasi waterway, how could she [Priyanaka Gandhi Vadra] have travelled? She also drank Ganga water, could she have done the same under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government?" Gadkari was quoted in the report as saying. He added that by March 2020, the Ganga will be 100 per cent clean.

According to the report, the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hoogly river system or the National Waterway 1 connecting Haldia (Sagar) to Prayagraj across the Ganges, Bhagirathi and Hooghly river systems is the longest waterway in India with a length of 1,620 km.

Earlier, on 18 March, Priyanka commenced a three-day boat campaign from Prayagraj and ended it in Varanasi.

According to the report, Gadkari said that a detailed project report (DPR) of Rs 12,000 crore will be sent by him to the World Bank for connecting Delhi-Prayagraj via waterway.
