In a big boost for the ongoing nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, the government is said to be gearing to complete the administration of a billion vaccine doses before mid-October, reports Times of India.

It is expected that the the ambitious target of administering 100 crore doses could be achieved between 5-10 October.

According to the report, it is also likely that the target could be achieved on 7 October itself as that marks the date when Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Chief Minister (CM) of Gujarat for the first time in 2001.

Also, the Union Ministry of Health is said to be planning to celebrate the day with events across the country. The said events would involve COVID-19 warriors and healthcare workers who have played an important role in the vaccination drive. The Ministry also plans to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to COVID-19.

It should be noted that yesterday (17 September), the day marking PM Modi’s birthday, the country saw highest ever single-day administration of 2.5 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses, since the ongoing drive had begun back on 16 January.

The country has been primarily banking on the supplies of Covishield and Covaxin from Pune-based Serum Institute of India and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech for the same so far.
