After West Bengal And Madhya Pradesh Now Chattisgarh Refuses To Implement Motor Vehicles Amendment Act

Having earlier said that the new provisions as per the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019 will apply in the state, the Chattisgarh government has now declined to implement it, TNIE reports.
R K Vij, the Special Director General of police (traffic, planning and management) had earlier announced that the new rules will come into force from 1 September barring some clauses that the state seeks to have a say on.
However, the state transport minister Mohammed Akbar has now said that the law will be sent to the Department of Law for a review before implementation.
“After getting the report from department of law and legislative affairs on pragmatic lines and seemingly problematic issues if any, the amended Motor Vehicles Act will then be extensively reviewed and whatever are seen to be in the best interest of the people of the state, the further decision on its implementation will be taken” the minister said.
Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal governments had refused to implement the law due to the stringent penalties proposed under the law. Other states like Punjab and Rajasthan had also called for a review of the law given the hike in penalties.
