After West Bengal, BJP Now Demands NRC For Hyderabad

Updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam has now led to a similar demand being raised by the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in Telangana, Hans India has reported.
Telangana BJP party president K Laxman on Tuesday (8 August) demanded that the Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) government in the state publish a NRC for the state and Hyderabad to weed out illegal immigrants from the city.
He further said that the household survey done in the state four years already has all the details, so it should not be difficult to create the list of legal residents, adding that the government should identity illegal immigrants and start deporting them.
In a rather controversial statement he said that the city had been functioning as a sheltered zone for extremist organisations and terrorists for the last three decades and demanded that the government be more vigilant in countering such elements.
There have been reports of scores of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Rohingya Muslims having settled in Hyderabad in recent years, some of them having been arrested for crimes and for trying to obtain fake Indian identity documents. Close to 4,000 Rohingyas have settled just in the Rachakonda area of the city, having crossed over from Bangladesh into India illegally.
