An as of yet unidentified miscreant or group of miscreants yesterday (19 November) vandalised an idol of Lord Human at a temple in the Mahavir Nagar area of Agra, Uttar pradesh, reports The Times Of India. As per information available with the police, the vandal even gouged the eyes of the idol.
Station house officer of Itmad-ud-daula, Udayveer SIngh Malik, said, “Early in the morning residents reported about the vandalised idol. Taking cognizance of sensitive nature of mischief, the idol was replaced by afternoon and a FIR was lodged against unknown person under IPC section 153 (Want only giving provocation with intent to cause riot).”
The officer added that the police is now checking CCTV of the preceding night to find out the identities of the miscreants.
Previously as well, Agra as well as bordering districts of Firozabad and Etah have seen a number of cases of vandalism against Hindu idols. There are least 15 such cases which have been reported in recent years.
