The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued an order for the closure of all meat and fish shops, non-vegetarian hotels, and restaurants within a 10-km radius of the Air Force Station in Yelahanka, from 30 January to 20 February, in preparation for the upcoming 14th edition of the Aero India show.

The air show is scheduled to be held at the Yelahanka Air Force Station from 13 to 17 February, and the ban on serving and selling non-vegetarian dishes has been ordered to ensure that birds are kept off the skies during the event.

This move is taken in the interest of safety as birds feeding on food leftovers and meat waste can become a potential hazard for aircrafts during the air show.

The order, issued by the BBMP Joint Commissioner, Yelahanka Zone, warned that any violation of the ban will result in punishment under the BBMP Act 2020 and Indian Aircraft Rules 1937 rule 91.

Further, the BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath also announced that mud capping of all landfills around Yelahanka Air Force station will be done to stop movement of birds. This will further help in reducing the bumber birds to the air force station during the air show.

The Aero India show is a major event in the aviation industry and is attended by many dignitaries, pilots and enthusiasts from around the world.

The five-day Aero India event, on the theme ‘The runway to a billion opportunities’, will be the largest-ever aero show organised at Air Force Station, Yelahanka in a total area of around 35,000 sqm. More than 700 exhibitors have registered for the event so far.
