Just hours ahead of the swearing-in ceremony for his second term of five years, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi today (30 May) visited the National War Memorial and paid tribute to the jawans who have laid down their lives for the country since independence, reports TheTimes of India.

On his visit, Modi was accompanied by the BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman who served as the nation's Defence Minister in Modi's first tenure. Also accompanying him were Army chief General Bipin Rawat, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, and the Vice Chief of the Air Force, Air Marshal R K S Bhadauria.

The National War memorial had been constructed under the prime minister’s watch and was also a priority project for Modi who inaugurated the state-of-the-art monument on 24 February 2019.

Today evening the PM will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at a function being organised in Rashtrapati Bhavan which is likely to be attended by over 8,000 people.
