AIADMK's lone Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) OP Ravindranath Kumar has triggered a controversy by rooting for Hindu unity in the nation, reports Hindustan Times.
The party has come under attack with allegations of the organisation having given up on its Dravidian values. However, the party has tried to distance itself from Kumar and has asserted that the views of Kumar's are not party's.
Kumar who is the son of Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) O Panneerselvam had said "We should all unite as Hindus disregarding other things so as to make the country a super power."
Kumar made the comment at an event held to celebrate Vinayaka Chaturthi, which had been organised by Hindu Munnani.
Meanwhile, defending the party, veteran AIADMK leader D Jayakumar told the media persons in Chennai, "The AIADMK is a party above religion or caste. It embraces people from all communities and religions. What he had said is his personal view and not of the party."
