Panna Ismail, an operative of Al Ummah involved in the attack planned on BJP leader L K Advani in 2011 besides the murders of BJP leader ‘Auditor’ Ramesh and Hindu Munnani leader S Vellaiyappan, threatened police on Friday (2 March) when he was being taken back to prison after his parole ended.

A video clipping of Ismail, charged with attempt to attack BJP leader L K Advani in 2011 with pipebombs besides trying to plant bombs at Lord Venkateshwara temple in Tirupati, showed him wagging his finger at a police official asking him to board the police van. He is shown threatening the police at least twice.

Al Ummah itself has been charged with being behind the blast at the RSS Headquarters in Chennai in 1993 and Coimbatore blasts in 1998. Ismail was captured by a joint force of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police on 5 October 2013 from a hideout in Puttur, Andhra Pradesh. Ismail was arrested along with two of his accomplices ‘Police’ Fakruddin and Bilal Malik.

The three were part of “Muslim Defence Force” formed to assassinate a popular leader in Chennai in 2013. ‘Auditor’ Ramesh was murdered allegedly by the three on 19 July 2013 in Salem and Vellaiyappan at Vellore on 1 July 2013. The three have been charged with involvement in April 2013 Bangalore blasts.

All the three are being tried at a special court in Poonamalee, 25 km from Chennai for the murders.
