India is set to achieve universal household electrification by January end. According to an official, 2.44 crore families have already received power connections out of the targeted 2.48 crore under Saubhagya scheme with an outlay of Rs 16,320 crore.

Around 30,000 families are being provided with electricity connection daily. Hence, it can be assumed that the remaining four lakh households could be energised by the end of the month, said the official as quoted by Livemint.

The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) was launched in September 2017 with the goal of achieving 100 per cent household electrification. The scheme envisions providing last mile connectivity and electricity to all the un-electrified households in rural as well as urban areas

Due to trouble created by left-wing extremists and elections, speed of work slowed down in some states, while there were some contractual issues as well in a few states, as per reports by Livemint.

According to the statistics given by the Saubhagya portal, around 3.58 lakh households are left to be electrified in four states.
