Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Parliament that vehicles rolled out after 1 April 2019 will be carrying tamper proof high security registration plates (HSRP), Economic Times has reported.

The HSRP will be a chromium-based hologram applied by hot stamping on the number plates both at the front and back, besides laser-branding of a permanent identification number according to an official.

"The ministry has notified ... mandating that HSRP including the third registration mark, wherever required, shall be supplied by vehicle manufacturers along with the vehicle manufactured on or after April 1, 2019 to their dealers," Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Concerned rules in Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and revision of the HSRP Order, 2001 have been placed in the public domain for any suggestions. The proposed order has also been discussed in a meeting on 5 June, 2018.

Representatives from testing agencies like Automotive Research Association of India, Central Road Research Institute, Central Institute of Road Transport, Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures and transport department officials of states, attended the meeting called by the centre and supported the proposal.
