Joining chorus with senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, the Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, captain Amarinder Singh said on Monday (29 July) that Priyanka Vadra would be a perfect choice to take over as the Congress party's president, reports Asian News International (ANI).
"Priyanka will be a perfect choice to take over the party reins but it all depends on the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which alone is authorised to make a decision in the matter," said CM Singh.
He further expressed confidence that Vadra would easily garner the support of the party's rank and file from across the regions. He added, "Priyanka is a good bet to replace him as the new leader."
Expressing disappointment that Rahul Gandhi had decided to step down from the party president position, CM Singh lamented that India will respond to a young leader. He said, "With the majority of India's population now comprising youth, only a youth leader can connect with the people and resonate with their aspiration."
