Amid Covid-19 Second Wave, 15,000 Protesting Farmers Head For Delhi Border

Amid an intense Covid-19 second wave, which has seen the Delhi health infrastructure being stretched to the limit, Farmer Union BKU Ekta Ugrahan has announced that 15,000 protesters are heading towards Delhi's borders in hundreds of vehicles, Times of India has reported.
"Nearly 15,000 activists had left for Tikri border where already thousands are putting up. Apart from it, the protests at 42 places across Punjab too are continuing", general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan has been quoted as saying.
These farmers will continue to protest against the farm reforms despite a steep rise in Covid-19 cases in and around Delhi. Besides handling a high patient volume, the Delhi hospitals are also reeling under oxygen shortages.
People fear that roads blocked by these farmer protesters may make it difficult for oxygen tankers to reach hospitals in the capital.
It was reported a couple of days ago that an oxygen supplier had written to the government complaining about delays in transporting oxygen due to roadblock by anti-farm law protesters.
The Delhi Police has announced that it has created green corridors to facilitate the smooth supply of medical oxygen.
