Vande Bharat Express between New Delhi and Varanasi.
The government is likely to scrap the bid submitted by a joint venture of a Gurugram based company and China's state-backed CRRC Yongji Electric Co Ltd to supply propulsion systems for the 44 semi-high speed Train-18 (Vande Bharat Express) trainsets for the Indian Railways, reports Times of India.
The tender worth around Rs 1,500 crore was floated in December last year By the Railways' Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and was opened on Friday (10 July).
It should be noted that despite it being a global tender, no major global player, including the two major ones which have their own production facilities in India have participated in the tender. These firms include Bombardier and Alstom.
Presently, there are two Train-18 Vande Bharat Express trains which are operating on Delhi-Varanasi and Delhi-Katra routes, both of which have been built by Chennai based Integral Coach Factory (ICF).

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
