Later today, India will test-fire its hypersonic nuclear-capable Shaurya missile, developed indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, a report in the New Indian Express says.

“..the canister-launched missile with a dummy payload will be test-fired from a land-based platform in full operational configuration marking the first test of the user series,” the New Indian Express report reads.

Due to its high maneuverability, the Shaurya missile is less vulnerable to ballistic missile defence systems. When fired, “radars across the borders will have less than 400 seconds to detect, track and intercept before it hits the target”.

The 10-metre-long missile has a range of about 750 km. Capable of carrying a payload of up to one tonne, the missile is a land variant of India’s K-15 Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile and can be stored in a composite canister.
