On Friday, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said that he too was an accidental prime minister.

The movie starring Anupam Kher has courted enough controversy just with the release of the trailer. Based on the tenure of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the movie is slated for release soon. Congress has alleged that it is a work of propaganda. The movie is based on the book by Singh’s media adviser Sanjaya Baru.

The Indian Express quoted H D Deve Gowda as saying, “Actually, I don’t know, why that was allowed…I think it started three or four months ago. I don’t know who has permitted, why? honestly, I have not gone through this so-called Accidental Prime Minister. I’m also (an) Accidental Prime Minister.”

He served as the prime minister from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997 since no party had the required mandate to form a government. Congress decided to support him to form the government. Later on, the party withdrew its support and Gowda had to step down from office.

The movie releases on 11 January.
