Having recovered from COVID-19, Union Minister for Home Affairs and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s heavyweight Amit Shah is set to lead the party's charge in West Bengal, reports The Hindu.

Shah will be heading to the State just days ahead of the auspicious Durga Puja later this month to address a meeting of party workers. he is likely to visit just ahead of the important dates from Panchami to Ashtami, as per Dipilp Ghosh who heads the BJP's state unit.

The decision about Shah's visit to the State was arrived at during a meeting of BJP's top brass in Delhi at party president JP Nadda's residence on Thursday (1 October). The meeting was attended by Ghosh, BJP's general secretary in charge of the State Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Shah.

Also present in the meeting were former state unit president Rahul Sinha and BJP's national joint general secretary Shivprakash.

It should be noted that the decision comes as the State is set to undergo assembly elections early next year. Shah will be overseeing the much of party's strategy with regards to the same going ahead.

In the last year's Lok Sabha elections, BJP led by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi and Shah had pulled off a stellar show, winning an unprecedented 18 seats in the State, emerging as a major threat to the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee.
