Ample Rains In Cauvery Basin: 15,000 Cusecs Released To Tamil Nadu

Monsoons may just play the peacemaker between disputing states as heavy downpour has resulted in Karnataka releasing 15,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu .
While on one hand, the unprecedented showers caused landslides and floods and wreaked havoc in many parts of the Karnataka, it raised the inflow in its reservoirs with Kabini almost touching its maximum level. As a result, the Karnataka state irrigation department released water from Kabini reservoir to Tamil Nadu even as it issued a flood alert to people in surrounding low lying areas directing them to move.
As reported by The New Indian Express, the Kabini reservoir saw an inflow of 30,000 cusecs in the last four days taking its level to 2,280 feet. This latest increase of 30 ft has left the reservoir only 4 ft short of its maximum, which it is expected to reach in the next few days.
Heavy rains in Wayanad in Kerala have filled up the Cauvery basin and people in low lying areas have been asked to move by irrigation officials.
