The Punjab police has instructed educational institutes throughout the state to ask prospective students from Jammu and Kashmir to submit a certificate stating that they have no criminal records, before they grant them admission, as reported by ZEE News.
Students who wish to study in the state will now have to obtain a certificate from their local law enforcement authorities stating that they have not been involved in any criminal activities or have sedition charges against them. The certificate will then be thoroughly verified by the Punjab police before admission is granted.
This decision comes after a few students studying in Jalandhar were suspected of carrying out illegal activities. Over 9,000 students who hail from J&K are studying in Punjab. With more students looking to gain admission into educational institutions in the state, Punjab is now on alert.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
