Amul To Help J&K Milk Cooperative Exploit State’s Huge Dairy Potential

The abrogation of Article 370 and the consequent end of special status in Jammu & Kashmir has created optimism about future possibilities of economic development in the state, specifically in the dairy sector.
As per a report by The Times of India, the Jammu and Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) is looking to massively ramp up production in the coming years, aided and guided by the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which is well known for its popular brand Amul.
JKCMPL wants to increase its milk procurement to 180 lakh kilos annually and boost its turnover to Rs 115 crore by 2024-25. The company has already established two milk processing plants in Srinagar and Jammu respectively.
Commenting on the potential for production of milk-based products in the state, the Managing Director of GCMMF R S Sodhi stated, “Dairy development has lot of scope in J&K. Amul’s job is to plan, guide, mentor and provide any technical assistance that is required to JKMPCL. Even at present, it has reached a respectable level.”
