Vairamuthu, national award winner and famous poet, author and lyricist is in trouble with an anonymous woman alleging sexual abuse by him. The Tamil film industry personality had a few months ago, termed Aandal, the only female saint among the 12 Alwars in South India as a “devadasi” in a derogatory manner.

The anonymous woman had messaged the allegations to journalist Sandhya Menon, who has been tweeting about some of the men who had allegedly misbehaved with her and other women. The woman recounted her harrowing experience at the hands of Vairamuthu when she was 18 years old.

The woman said the lyricist, in the excuse of explaining her the lyrics hugged and kissed her. She said she didn’t know what to do but later ran out of his house-cum-office in Chennai city’s Kodambakkam area. Later, she was told that the whole industry knew that Vairamuthu was a “predator” and people were scared to expose him due to his political connections. He had allegedly used these connections to silence his other victims.

Tamil playback singer Chinmayi also tweeted in support of the woman saying that the entire industry knew of Vairamuthu’s behaviour and that ‘time’s up’, referring to the nation-wide phenomenon.

Vairamuthu has been a staunch supporter of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its patriarch the late M Karunanidhi. One person on social media said he was also known for assaulting new actress in front of everyone. Another said the lyricist has played with careers with his connections.
