Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today (13 January) said Andhra Pradesh was set to emerge as a regional aviation hub, after Vijayawada Airport registered 73 per cent growth last year. The two other airports in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati are also witnessing growth.

Naidu also spoke about the Ministry of Civil Aviation agreeing in-principle to construct a permanent terminal in Vijayawada and convert the existing one to a cargo hub. He has requested civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju to complete the construction of the new terminal in two years and consider setting up an Air Freight Station at Veerapanenigudem.

The chief minister has also proposed a highway from Vijayawada Airport to the planned seaport at Machilipatnam, and the setting up of a multi-modal logistics system in the state’s capital region.
