Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh
In another sensational allegation, ex-Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh has accused Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of avoiding expert legal opinion whilst ordering to file an abetment of suicide case in former Dadra and Nagar Haveli MP Mohan Delkar’s suicide case.
Delkar was found dead in Mumbai on 22nd February and Singh asserted that Deshmukh had sought ‘political mileage’ by filing the concerned FIR with respect to Delkar’s death. The policeman even said that he had opposed the filing of the FIR amidst a meeting of ministers that included Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray too.
“From day one, the Home Minister desired a case of abetment of suicide to be registered at Mumbai. My professional view after seeking appropriate legal advice was that while the suicide had occurred in Mumbai, all the alleged acts of abetment had taken place in Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Thus, the abetment of suicide, if any, was required to be investigated by the Police at Dadra & Nagar Haveli who would have jurisdiction in that regard,” Singh wrote in his letter to the CM.
The cop explained that there was a general consensus in that meeting that the alleged act of abetment could only be probed by the police at Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Singh claimed that Deshmukh announced the establishment of a special investigation team (SIT) and the registration of the FIR on 9th March in spite of the contradictory opinions of the legal experts, ANI reports.
“Due to my resistance, the Home Minister was unhappy with me as the political mileage desired to be derived from the registration of the abetment of the suicide case,” the former police commissioner revealed. He has also accused Deshmukh of asking tainted cop Sachin Vaze to collect monthly extortions of Rs 100 crore from Mumbai.
