Meerut: Hindu Families Fleeing Homes Due To Fear Of Molestation By ‘Particular Community’, Says Complainant

More than hundred Hindu families have been forced to migrate due to incessant harassment by members of other community in Meerut, a township in Utter Pradesh around 50 km from the capital New Delhi, according to the complaint filed by a resident Bhavesh Mehta, reports India Today.

A committee comprising the city magistrate and circle officer, Kotwali, has been constituted to investigate the issue and Police personnel have been deployed in the area to deal with law and order problem.

To highlight the exodus of 125 Hindu families, a complaint was lodged on the NaMo app by a social worker. The complainant, Bhavesh Mehta, claimed that Hindu families are selling their homes and migrating out of fear.

Hindu women are harassed by members of the other community and family members raise objection they are beaten up, he alleged. Bhavesh Mehta said, “Due to this many people have moved from here. I had urged PM to direct administration to take appropriate steps in this regard.” He also alleged that houses owned by Hindus were being bought at throwaway prices by Muslims.

However Additional Director General (ADG) of Uttar Pradesh Police (Meerut Zone) Prashant Kumar denied that the migration was based out of fear and said, “District officials conducted an inspection, migration of people from Prahlad Nagar (is) not due to fear. There are traffic, pollution and eve-teasing related problems in the area. Police-picket has been established and CCTV cameras are being installed in the area. Probe to be conducted.”
