Following on the heels of Kashmiri footballer-turned-terrorist Majid Khan’s return, another unnamed Kashmiri youth today shunned terroism and returned home in south Kashmir, as reported by Business Standard.

The return followed an appeal by the youth’s family and the security forces but citing security concerns, the youth’s identity has been kept secret. Meanwhile, another appeal to return home, by the family of terrorist Ashiq Hussain Bhat has surfaced, clearly indicating the trend in the valley.

The return marks another success for the security forces in Kashmir, which saw a sustained campaign by the forces to wipe out terrorism that had risen in recent months. As the youth who had joined the terrorists earlier dither, the security forces are now focussing their efforts to bring them back to the society.

The terrorism in Kashmir has been supported by Pakistan and saw a spike following the killing of terrorist leader Burhan Wani in July last year. Following several successful operations by the security forces, as terrorism dwindles, the forces now want to bring back the misguided youth to the mainstream. Several measures, including a 24x7 helpline have been launched to guide their return. The Kashmiri government is mulling new policies to help in the rehabilitation of surrendered terrorists too, following two other such policies launched in 2004 and 2010.
