Another ‘Make In India’ Milestone: South Korean Auto Giant KIA Begins Trial Production In Andhra’s Anantapur Facility

KIA Motors, the world’s eighth largest automaker, on Tuesday (29 January) commenced its trial production at a facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district. A brand new SUV-KIA SP2i was introduced at the event as well. The car was on display at the India Auto Expo 2018.

The car will be manufactured at the newly launched state-of-the-art manufacturing plant from later this year. During the launch ceremony, the trial operations commenced. Present on the occasion were Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu and Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to India Shin Bongkil. Apart from the aforementioned, President & CEO of KIA Motors Corporation, Han-Woo Park, was also present along with MD & CEO of KIA Motors India Kookhyn Shim, Deccan Herald reported.

A new KIA Soul Electric Vehicle has been handed over to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the company expects to enter into a Future Mobility Partnership with the state government.

Deccan Herald quoted Park as saying, “India will play a singularly important role in expanding Kia Motors’ global footprint, and today feels like the start of another chapter in our Indian success story. Commencing trial production is a significant moment that we have been preparing for as we take on the challenges of future mobility across the country.”
