Anti-CAA Stir: UP Police Imposes Gangster Act On 28 Rioters Involved In Violence, Looting And Burning Police Outpost

The Lucknow police on Friday (13 March) booked 28 people, in connection with the violence, loot and setting ablaze of a police outpost in Thakurganj police station limits on 19 December 2019, under the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, reports Hindustan Times.
The 28 accused, including their gang leader Mohammed Tahir, were arrested for firing on police with an ‘intention to kill’ and for setting ablaze Satkhanda police outpost. They have also been charged of damaging and looting other government offices and setting public/ private vehicles on fire.
“Over a dozen people were arrested from the spot while others were arrested after been identified through photographs and video footages of the violence,” Additional deputy commissioner of police (west) Vikas Chandra Tripathi was quoted as saying as per report.
As per press note released by Lucknow police, the accused have charged with Gangster act as investigations confirmed that they acted as a gang and intentionally targeted police outpost and police personnel during the violence.
Tripathi further stated that the police have ample evidence against the accused to justify the imposition of the Gangster Act against them.
