In the latest twist in the legal battle between smartphone-maker Apple and chip-manufacturer Qualcomm, a judge of the US International Trade Commission has passed a recommendation to ban the import of some iPhones into the US, reports Mint.

Qualcomm alleges that some of the iPhones imported into the US by Apple contain parts violating technology patents belonging to it. The technology patents in question are vital to the ability of iPhones to connect with the internet.

However, it is still not clear whether the recommended ban on imports would actually be implemented, as the judge’s decision has to be cleared by the full trade commission for a ban to go into effect.

According to Reuters, Apple has continuously questioned Qualcomm’s patent licensing practices, terming them ‘monopolistic’. “Qualcomm is using these cases to distract from having to answer for the real issues, their monopolistic business practices,” said a statement released by Apple.

The technology patent battle between the two sides has been ongoing for two years.
