Arabian Deserts? Kerala Mosque Boycotts Family For ‘Letting Women Pose For Pictures And Singing’ At Wedding

Aloor Mosque committee in Palakkad district of Kerala has boycotted a family for letting women pose for photos and singing at a wedding, reports The News Minute.
According to TNM, the mosque committee had punished Danish Riyaz and his family for hosting a wedding reception where women posed for photographs and sang.
The reason that the mosque said was that women were allowed to climb on to the dais and pose for photographs, and were also allowed to speak over the microphone to bless the newlyweds. A two-piece orchestra was arranged to entertain the guests with music. Children were also allowed to dance on the stage.
“I knew that our mosque had some traditional rules which is not followed in most other parts of Kerala. To avoid any tension with the Aloor Committee, we shifted the wedding reception to Edappal, Malappuram, which is nowhere close to Aloor or the mosque,” TNM quoted Danish's Facebook post as saying.
“When we went for Friday prayers, a week after the function, the chief Khatheeb publicly insulted us. He named the function as 'vulgar wedding' and said the mosque would no longer cooperate with my family in any matters,” Danish told TNM.
The committee members have reportedly stopped collecting a monthly fee of Rs 100, for the upkeep of the mosque, from Danish’s family. Moreover, the family has also been barred from entertaining the Ustads of the mosque for lunch, a practice held every three months.
Taking the responsibility of the wedding reception, Danish stated that his family was not aware of the arrangements made for the celebrations and must be exempted from the punishments.
“I accept the boycott and would follow any remedial measures to make amends,” TNM quoted Danish as saying.
“It has been 45 days since we sent the letter to the mosque committee and we have not heard from them. I have appealed to the Chief Minister, our MLA VT Balram and the State Human Rights Commission, through my Facebook post, to talk to the committee and help my family. The police had visited my house, asking us to contact them if we face any problems,” Danish added.
