Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Thursday (8 April) said that there is no shortage of the Covid-19 vaccines in the country and that the government has more than 43 million doses in stock or in the pipeline, reports Hindustan Times.

Dr Vardhan took to twitter to share a chart which showed that while India has already administered 91 million doses, it still has 24 million doses in stocks and another 19 million doses are in the pipeline.

The Health Minister, in the tweet, called for "an end to fear-mongering" over the vaccine supplies.

"Where does question of shortages arise? We’re continuously monitoring and enhancing supply," he said.

Dr Vardhan's assertion comes after states like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand complained that they are facing a shortage of vaccines supplies.

Maharashtra's Health Minister Rajesh Tope had gone on to allege that states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana were getting “more vaccines” when seen in the context of their population and COVID-19 cases.

In addition to this, officials from States such as Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Assam had also said that they only had supplies for the next few days and would need replenishment of stocks.
