Arthur Road Jail All Set To ‘Welcome’ Nirav Modi After Extradition To India; May Become Mallya’s Roommate

The prison authorities from the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai have informed the Maharashtra Home department that they have kept the 'barrack number 12' ready if fugitive economic offender Nirav Modi is extradited from the United Kingdom, reports Hindu BusinessLine.
The State Home department was also apprised of the facilities that can be provided to Modi there, in case he is to be lodged in the barrack. The development took place after the central government asked the state government about the same.
Nirav Modi will be lodged in Barrack 12 of Arthur Road jail in Mumbai, the same barrack where Vijay Mallya will be lodged in case the former liquor baron is also extradited to India.
The state government has submitted a letter of assurance to the Centre about the facilities which it can provide in the prison. As per the letter, Neerav Modi will be kept in one of the two rooms in the barrack.
In the barrack, Modi will be provided with three square metre personal space, a cotton mat, pillow, bed-sheet and blanket. He will also be permitted out of the cell for exercise and recreation for a reasonable amount of time not exceeding an hour a day. he will also have access to clean drinking water, round-the-clock medical facilities as well as toilet and washing facilities.
