The Indian Army has returned the equipment that it seized from a Chinese road-construction unit after the People’s Liberation Army agreed to stop the activity on the Indian side the Line of Actual Control near Bishing in Arunachal Pradesh in a border personnel meeting held two days ago, News18 has reported.

In December, a Chinese road-construction unit with two earth excavators and other equipment intruded a kilometre into Indian territory in Bishing village in the Upper Siang district and was pushed back by the Indian army.

According to sources quoted by the Times of India, the Chinese "reacted very maturely to accept that the differing perception of the LAC" had led its construction workers "to inadvertently transgress" into Indian territory.

"They assured us they will take care to ensure their construction personnel do not cross over into our side again," the daily’s source added.

Speaking at an event on the modernisation of the armed forces, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat confirmed the news. He also informed that there was a major reduction in the number of Chinese troops in the Doklam area.
